Hua Hin

Last Friday Jon and I got it in our heads that the only real way we could possibly enjoy our weekend was if it involved caves, mountains, a random trip to nowhere, and any other foolish,endorphin-inducing activities. So we planned, packed, and prepared in a style that can only be described as “nonchalant-batcheloresqe” (French for “super-duper lazy”…).

After wandering Bangkok in search of the correct train station we finally boarded a train bound for Hua Hin. Pictures and descriptions are posted below, but our train ride was quite an experience. Being my first time on a train, I only had my imagination and movies to work with.

I was not disappointed.

Our cabin became progressively rowdier when some of the college guys began pulling out bottles of 80 proof Thai rum. In 3 hours they downed 5 bottles, bought the foreigners (me and Jon) all kinds of food (squid jerky!), made a crap-ton o’ noise, removed multiple articles of clothing, and finally passed out in/on/around/under their seats. At one point a guy was even asleep with his legs inside the bathroom.

We didn’t plan to stay in Hua Hin. Our destination was a national park 40 kilometers due south called Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. But, because we’re trying to consistently do church every Sunday morning, we decided to cut the trip short. So instead we stayed in Hua Hin and walked around town for awhile. We ate and drank all kinds of fun stuff, climbed on random junk, lost Cayla’s Lonely Planet: Thailand book, walked all over the place, found the book, and hopped an air-conditioned bus headed home.

The whole trip was about 600 Baht (under 20$) and ended up being a lot of fun. Jon and I decided to have another man-cation really soon. 8)

Sounds like a great adventure! I’m glad you are getting to experience the trains/chaos over there.
