Birthday Fun: A Picnic & Portraits

Cayla and I celebrated her 20-somethingth birthday together a big local park. The park’s name means “Park of Freedom,” and, for us, that’s exactly how it felt. Aside from a few gardeners and one shady young couple (no chaperone—gasp!), surprisingly few people were at the park that day.

We spread out a blanket, ate chicken salad lettuce wraps, and read aloud to one another while I stole the occasional photograph here and there. It’s that part of the year when the clouds scowl out you, always seeming like they’re about to ruin everything, but they never do. Eventually they’ll follow through, and the whole city will get wet.

For now, though, the cloud cover makes for really nice, soft light and the perfect outdoor weather.

All-in-all, it was fabulous. Here are a few shots from our time:
