Buy Shoes. Save Lives.

The business side of what PLC does is called Buy Shoes. Save Lives. Exporting these handmade Iraqi shoes (and shirts, scarfs, etc.) is one way we raise money for kids in need of heart surgery, but it also expands the market for local Kurdish shoemakers. They make more money, we send more kids, and you get a classy pair of shoes. It’s win-win-win.

Here’s a recent clip from BSSL documenting Aram, a shoemaker I was privileged enough to meet while in Iraq.

Introducing “Ballet Klash”

Posted in Good Causes by matt on Thursday, June 24, 2010

Check out the newness from the Preemptive Love Coalition!

Kurdish craftsmen have passed down their meticulous trade for well over a thousand years with very few modifications.

If it ain’t broke, right?

But one shoemaker had the where-with-all to boldly sew where no Kurd had sewn before (insert epicly cheesy trumpet music here). This experimentation has had all kinds of … interesting … results, but we’re proud to finally present the sister-shoe to the traditional klash – the “Ballet Klash.”

It’s more slipper-esque and has a bow to make it a little more feminine. Because what girl hasn’t wanted to be some combination of a ballerina and/or Dorothy at some point in their life?

Pretty much none.

This shoe allows both double x chromosome fantasies to become a reality and it saves a kid’s life. So check it out. Buy a pair!
